Turkey Hill Farm
North Salem, NY
STIMSON regraded the area immediately adjacent to the house and created a series of terraces to incorporate the program elements. A low wall defines a small parking area and creates a platform for the front lawn and entry garden. Large drifts of grasses, Russian sage, and other perennials meander across the lawn and throughout the site. The pool terrace sits midway between the upper and lower levels of the house where lawn steps lead to a small orchard terrace. The vanishing edge of the pool draws the eye through the orchard to the horse paddock and woodland beyond. To the south, a long stone wall supports a level play lawn, and grass steps lead from the lawn to a new pond surrounded by birch trees, grasses, and native shrubs.
