We are deeply honored to receive recognition for this Park that has been a work in progress since 2008. It involved a close collaboration between STIMSON, the DPW team, Jim Laurila, David Veleta, Diane Rossini, Mayor Narkewicz, the CPA, Massachusetts PARC Grant Program, and most of all, the community of Northampton who designed this Park with us.
A Unique Design Feature: Hackley School’s Stormwater System Activates the Landscape
ARC and STIMSON collaborated on the design for the Johnson Center for Health and Wellness at Hackley School with a shared goal of creating a large facility that blends into the surrounding landscape. The building site was previously home to a variety of woodland trails that students used to travel between the academic and athletic campuses. The new 115,000 SF building is segmented into separate but connected pieces that preserve many of these wooded paths while also creating new, exciting outdoor courtyards that celebrate the native forest landscape and provide views to the adjacent campus centers.
