Ramón Ibarlucea
Senior Associate

Forever a New Englander, Ramón grew up on Conanicut Island, forming an early connection to landscapes shaped by history, resilience, and the shifting line between land and sea. He earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island, where his work focused on climate change adaptation strategies for at-risk coastal communities.

Before joining STIMSON, Ramón worked in a Providence, Rhode Island studio where he focused on the redevelopment of underused urban land for civic use. That experience deepened his interest in the public realm and the belief that existing conditions hold value. His design approach treats grading, material, detail, and planting as expressions of a site’s history - allowing the site’s inherited framework to inform its next chapter. His technical expertise supports this approach, allowing design decisions to remain precise while honoring the character of place.

He values collaboration and mentorship, shaped by a studio culture where ideas move forward through drawing, conversation, and shared effort. He brings a sense of humor to this process as well, using it to provoke curiosity and invite unexpected connections within the work. Ramón has lectured at the University of Rhode Island and with The Cultural Landscape Foundation on universal accessibility, adaptive reuse, and how site history can inform design.
