Positions for designers open from time to time, and we are always interested in reviewing qualifications. Please send a letter of interest, resume and work samples for review. We rely heavily on AutoCAD and other digital media, but LOVE to see hand drawing skills. Work samples should cover that range. We are interested in evaluating applicants’ design and production skills in both presentation drawings and construction documents. We also like to learn a bit about your personality and hope you love design, plants and food the way we do.

Landscape Architect | Princeton Studio | Posted September 26, 2019

STIMSON is a nationally recognized 30-person landscape architecture firm based in Cambridge and Princeton, Massachusetts. We are composed of an urban and rural landscape architecture studio, a working farm and a plant nursery. Led by five Principals, we share a mutual love for the land, craft and invention. Our projects range from urban campuses and public parks to farms and residential gardens. We work in the Northeast, with a growing handful of projects extending to the Midwest, Mid Atlantic and Canada. Our studio is sacred ground. We believe in diversity, inclusivity, equity and a culture that encourages authenticity.

We are seeking a Landscape Architect with 7+ years of experience to work alongside us in our Princeton studio. This space is a smaller, more intimate studio with 8-10 people and a strong connection to our nursery and farm. We think of this place as our innovation lab. In recent years, we have seen an increase in opportunities to integrate our design projects with the mission of the farm and nursery.

The candidate should have experience with the following:

  • Strong design and communication skills

  • Experience managing and leading design teams for institutional and residential clients

  • Mentoring younger staff with design and custom detailing

  • Redlining Construction Document sets

  • Extensive experience in the field during construction and ability to think on your feet

  • Effective communication skills and ability to sketch ideas

  • Fluent in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and related studio programs

  • Experience with proposal writing and fee calculations

  • Strong plant knowledge

  • Nursery/farm/animal husbandry/tractor experience is a bonus

Princeton, MA is a small town with a long history, just over an hour west of Boston. It is known for Wachusett Mountain, with hiking trails and downhill ski slopes, Wachusett Meadows Audubon Sanctuary, the Mid-State trail and other numerous rural activities, a year-round farmers market, and a local village café.

We are an easy drive to the Worcester and Leominster areas. Our studio is located on the town green in the old general store, with an open and collaborative layout. Chemistry is everything. We recognize that life outside of the studio influences the work that we produce. We host a Rural Walks and Talks lecture series and encourage people to explore opportunities in this region that enrich our studio. We all share a passion for food, land and design.

If you share this ethos, please email portfolios and a letter of interest to:
