Sydney Milligan
Design Intern

A Louisiana native, Sydney grew up going to Mardi Gras parades, festivals, and LSU football game tailgates that unite people with music, festivities, and of course some good Louisiana cooking. She loves that these events cultivate a sense of belonging in the Louisiana community, which inspires Sydney to celebrate identity in her design ideas. Sydney is also motivated by her commitment to environmental stewardship and advocacy for design equity; aiming to establish a strong sense of place through design that will foster connections between people and the land, inspiring a collective desire to preserve and care for it.

Sydney is in her fourth year studying landscape architecture at Louisiana State University. She is excited to be visiting the Boston area for her internship at STIMSON. While here, she hopes to expand upon her knowledge of the benefits of indigenous plants within urban design. She believes that attention to detail at the small scale of planting is the foundation for fostering a sense of place in design.

When not in school or landscape architect-ing, Sydney is always looking for new music to listen to, practicing painting, or spending time outdoors with friends. She is looking forward to seeing more Boston snow, exploring New England beaches in the summer, and getting to know the native flora and fauna in Massachusetts.
