A New England native and registered landscape architect, Stephen grew up in Connecticut exploring the woods and banks around the Hammonasset River and wading in the tide pools of Long Island Sound. His appreciation for nature and the outdoors led him to the University of Connecticut where he studied Horticulture and received a Bachelor of Science from the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. After graduation Stephen began a career where he studied plant genetics. Eager to return to his roots and blend his newfound scientific knowledge of plants with art and design, Stephen pursued a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Prior to joining STIMSON in 2012, Stephen practiced in New York and Boston and brings with him the passion of connecting people with nature and the experience of working at multiple scales and locales. Previous work includes international developments, urban and neighborhood revitalization plans, and private gardens. His professional interests include residential design, water resource management, and designing with native plants and materials. While not in the studio Stephen enjoys traveling with his family, cooking, and gardening.
